Our sustainability initiatives
Barber Foods has been committed to sustainable development for over 50 years by investing in our workforce, growing with our community, and building smart facilities that minimize our impact on the environment.
As a result of this deliberate planning, today:
- Our food waste is transferred to a local compost company
- Our wastewater pre-treatment facility screens out 99% of particulate matter – any remaining solids are composted
- A portion of our used fryer oil is used to heat our buildings
- Our foodservice division packs a majority of products in bulk, not in individual pouched bags, helping to reduce plastic waste
- Master product boxes are made with 60% recycled cardboard
- Over one million meal servings are donated to food banks annually
- Any solid waste that is not composted or recycled is used by ECO MAINE and converted into energy
