May 15, 2009
David Barber, Executive Vice President, Barber Foods, will receive the 2009 JoAnn Pike Humanitarian Award at 5:30 pm on May 15 at the Good Shepherd Food Bank in Auburn. Over 300 people will attend this celebration that will honor an outstanding community leader and advance a great cause. The Good Shepherd Food-Bank is dedicated to eliminating hunger in our communities and is committed to the fundamental stand that no one should go hungry in Maine.
The Good Shepherd Food Bank reaches more than 600 member agencies throughout Maine, feeding more than 70,000 people each month. These are Maine people facing harsh choices – between heat and life-saving medicine or food. In supplying more than 1.5 million meals each month and 10 million pounds of food annually, the Good Shepherd Food-Bank alleviates critical needs for children, senior citizens and others with essential needs.
Under David Barber’s leadership, Barber Foods donates over 1 million meal servings to food-banks annually. Barber Foods is the largest provider of protein in the state to the Good Shepherd Food-Bank. Over $2 million of product has been donated to the Good Shepherd Food Bank by Barber Foods in the past six years. In addition, Barber Foods donates over $1 million each year to charitable organizations combating hunger and creating a better community.
